Continental flight 1404 from Denver International bound for Houston overshot the runway during takeoff today, and the resulting crash injured about 38 people.

Twitter user Mike Wilson was on the flight. Wilson, whose Twitter handle is “2drinksbehind” immediately Tweeted, “Holy fucking shit I wasbjust in a plane crash!”

Don’t know if I’ve ever heard of anybody tweeting their own plane crash, but now Twitter can claim another emergency situation that it was on top of before any other form of media. Fortunately, it sounds like no one was killed, so it could have been much worse.

Another user, Jennifer Ross, wasn’t on the plane but tweeted about ensuing emergency at the airport.

Wild wild stuff. But another example of how Twitter can be invaluable in dispersing important, urgent information. With a global user base, and simplicity of use, Twitter is quickly becoming my go-to source for breaking news, especially with Twitscoop.
