SEO Demand Continuing to Surge as Economy Craters
Rand Fishkin at SEOmoz has a great article about the sudden surge towards SEO as marketers look for fresh, effective solutions.
SEO has come a long way. In spite of troubled economic times, web sales are holding strong, outperforming brick-and-mortar operations even as stores pitch big discounts. Firms are beginning to understand that the benefit of maintaining a strong web presence during a weakened economy is very important to keeping the bottom line healthy.
It has to be stated that the economy’s problems have probably done a good deal to lessen the stigmas associated with SEO. Even Google has released and SEO guide. Unfortunately, SEO was often associated with fly-by-night types offering first page placement with little investment. Of course, this isn’t real SEO and hurt legitimate SEOs by their presence.
But good SEOs have demonstrated their value, and given some time to implement their full proposals have shown measurable value. Internet marketing ROI is often easy to see, if the campaigns are done right, and with web sales as a growth industry, investment can be very successful when companies who have ignored SEO embrace it.
But it’s important to remember that it’s more than just SEO that makes a good site. Ranking well is one thing, but what if your customers hit the road without ordering anything? There are many aspects of a web presence that need to be looked at and analyzed. An SEO is a good place to start, and hopefully they have the expertise to not only help your site rank well for terms important to you, but point you in the right direction as far as conversion goes.
As Fishkin points out, the biggest factor may be that many companies are taking the time to reevaluate their marketing presence. Downturns often lead to significant reappraisals of a company’s marketing, and SEO is looking very good to a lot of companies.
