RSS Convergence

There is little doubt that RSS has become an increasingly important part of Internet marketing. By giving users more control over information, RSS is set to replace email as the communication method between consumers as their vendors.

This is becoming even more probable with the proliferation of RSS readers. Traditionally RSS readers were software applications that allowed the user to subscribe to RSS feeds. But the new RSS readers are upgrades to hardware, some of which never offered email compatibility.

Sony just rolled out a firmware update to the PSP allowing users to subscribe to RSS and Podcast through the handheld game machine. The Wifi connection built within the PSP makes this an ideal product enhncement to better interact with rich media over the Internet.

We have also seen devices like the Blackberry get upgraded to allow RSS subscriptions. This means more and more real time communications through RSS. And one of the more interesting moves towards convergence is Tivo, which is now offering RSS subscription ability. When you think about the proliferation of video content like TWiT, it’s easy to see how Tivo could fit well into the mix. If you are an Internet marketer, there is no reason to not be trying to catch this wave.
