Google to provide free Wi-Fi internet access

Come one.. come all! The Google fairy has bestowed yet another gift upon the townpeople of Mountainview, CA. According to the San Jose Mercury News, Google has unveiled plans to provide a municipal Wi-Fi network offering free Internet access to both residents and visitors to Mountain View by the end of September.

The San Jose Mercury News says that Google “simply has more money than sense.” Whatever your take, I’m sure the citizens of Mountainview won’t be complaining anytime soon. Reportedly all you need to access the network is a user name and password, which priovides access to Google’s many Web services, like email, personalized news and a daily calendar. Google says the network will run at 1 MB per second, which is slower than DSL and cable.
