Google Sees Huge Surge in Web Traffic Via iPhone
Google has reported massive spikes in web traffic to their sites via Apple’s iPhone, proving that the iPhone’s enhanced web browsing ability is leading to heavy use by its owners.
Much of the iPhone’s promise centered around a handset browser that resembles the internet we see and use on our desktops and notebooks, but it was not known if Apple’s innovation would be enough to get people to regularly use the web via a handset.
The average amount of web use by iPhone users is far surpassing that of Nokia’s Symbian users, Windows Mobile, and Blackberry.
Development on the iPhone also appears to be a breeze compared to other platforms. Just today, Google sped up and improved their iPhone interface, allowing users to access iGoogle. Not only will this lead to a better experience for Google users, but third-party iPhone developers can create for iGoogle and not worry about dealing with Apple.
With Android emerging from the primordial ooze, Apple could find some handset competition with Google. Besides Android and their bidding on wireless spectrum, Google CEO and Apple board member Eric Schmidt now recuses himself from all iPhone conversations during board meetings. Considering this is Apple’s hottest product, that’s a pretty big topic to be avoiding.
All of this is very good news for internet marketing and web advertising on mobile web sites. With the explosion in use now in effect, marketers will be scrambling to find the best ways to utilize the new technology.
