It appears that Google is conjuring up yet another development according to their recent “unannounced” purchase of bench-index.com., benchindex.com, Index-bench.com, indexbench.com, and each .org, .info, and .net. 3 days after purchasing these domains, Google applied for a trademark for the term Indexbench.

What is Google IndexBench? Enthusiasts are speculating that IndexBench may become a tool to build your own “index,” giving everyone their very own custom search engine, or possibly follow a similar platform to that of Alexa.

I would have to lean more towards the custom search engine scenario with a typical Google twist on it. There is only so far you can go without human intervention, and IndexBench just might be the next step in the evolutionary search ladder.
