Here’s an interesting little study for somebody with a business to pay some attention to: workers with larger monitors are more productive than workers with smaller ones.

Researchers at the University of Utah determined that workers who use a 24-inch monitor get tasks done a whopping 52% faster than workers using an 18-inch monitor. Workers with dual 20-inch monitors got their tasks completed 44% faster than those on a single 18-incher. The tasks included editing documents and copying data from one spreadsheet to another.

One big notice, however: the study was funded by NEC, and word on the street is that they construct computer monitors, and a lot of big ones. James Anderson, the professor in charge of the study, claimed there was no influence given by NEC about and the project was vetted by the university’s research board.

Anderson also warned that bigger isn’t always better. There are different situations for different monitors, but if workers worked during an entire eight hour day, they could get as much as 2.5 hours more worth of work done with the larger monitor.
