Amid iPhone Chaos, a WordPress Client
Today has been a rather rough day for some 3G iPhone adopters around the world. Gizmodo is calling it the “iPocalypse,” Drudge Report has picked it up, and many people are leaving stores without their new iPhones activated. Also, those attempting to update their old iPhone firmware are ending up with bricks as the update is both killing their phones and not giving them the new software. iTunes activation servers are also down, making it impossible to activate from home. Horror stories abound of brave men waiting five hours for a phone and coming up empty, and those that are lucky enough to get a phone are left holding useless, lifeless iStones.
Bars near AT&T stores are reporting brisk business as the excitement generated after weeks of anticipation is replaced by a harsh frustration that leads to a deep craving for hard alcohol. A desperate few have been seen in alleyways gripping their Apple bricks in one hand with a bottle of Thunderbird in the other. Steve Jobs was spotted in Cupertino sniffing glue behind a dumpster.
Okay, the previous paragraph is mostly untrue, but apparently it has been a difficult day for a lot of iPhone adopters. It’s not known how much is hyperbole and how much is real, but if you’re planning on either trying to get a 3G iPhone or updating your old one, it might be best to take a breather and wait until later.
But there is a piece of very good news for WordPress bloggers with iPhone: WordPress is releasing an open-source iPhone client that will allow users to update their WordPress blogs on the go. WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg is reporting that it is the only open-source app in the iPhone store, and of course is free of charge. It works for WordPress.com users and self-hosted blogs using 2.5.1 or newer.
