Amazon Releases iPhone App

Like buying crap? All the time? Now it’s a lot easier if you have an iPhone, because Amazon has put out a nice app that allows users to shop from anywhere.

Stuck in traffic and want a fondue set? Just download the app and voila, you’re melting cheese in a few days. Undoubtedly this will fix the cratering economy.

Seriously, the app looks very good. Although I have not tried it out since I’m not using an iPhone, buzz on the blogs is very positive. However, it’s strange Amazon couldn’t have put this out a week ago. With huge numbers of travelers stranded in airports during the peak of the Christmas shopping season, Amazon could have made a mint selling stuff to bored people in airport terminals. Major ball-droppage there, but at least it’s out now.

One of the most talked about features of the new app is its ability to take a photo snapped by your iPhone of some product, run it through Amazon’s human-powered Mechanical Turk program, and match up the product with something on Amazon. Just snap the photo, send it off, and in as few as five minutes an email will be sent to you with links to possible products.
