A Month With An Asus Eee PC

eeepc.jpgYes, I’ve had my Asus Eee PC for about a month now, and I’m really happy with everything it does. While I wish it was just a little bit more powerful, for everything I really need to do, it performs beautifully.

I know the Linux fanboys are going to hate me, but I decided to get the Linux system and install a scaled-down version of Windows XP on it, along with Microsoft Office. I’d rather use Firefox, but it takes up four times the resources of my IE7 install, so everything runs quite smoothly on the Internet.

The Eee PC’s tiny size is really handy, actually. I find myself using it in ways I’d never used laptops before. I can rest in on my chest while I lay in bed and watch TV, and it’s never uncomfortable. It’s pretty handy to grab and take into the can to check email in the morning. In fact, I would say it’s probably the perfect computer for the bathroom (hey, I saw that tons of people check email in the bathroom so I know I’m not alone).

One of my favorite parts of the Eee PC is doing videochat with Skype on it. Since it’s so light, you can almost use it as a video camera, showing people around your house, easily pointing it around in any direction. The camera is of good quality and the speakers and microphone work well so it’s as good as any speaker phone.

For people with big hands, I would imagine the keyboard would be pain, but I have pretty long, thin fingers and it works quite well for me. I can bang out emails nearly as quickly as with my Mac keyboard.

So, yeah, I’m an Eee fanboy. I’ve drank the Kool-Aid. I’m selling all of my other computers and going all-Eee, all the time. The world will surely follow.
