Yahoo to try and Steal Google’s YouTube Thunder

In a not so covert way, Yahoo wants in on the hype that is surrounding the purchase of YouTube by Google. Recently, the company announced that they are planning on holding a video talent show search that will reward the winner with a not so paltry $50,000 an episode contract. The eight week contest begins November 13th and contestants can upload videos that will be voted on by both the public and a highly qualified (snicker) group of judges. [more…]

YouTube Purges 30,000 Copyright Files

The popular video-sharing site YouTube deleted nearly 30,000 files after a Japanese entertainment group complained of copyright infringement.

The Japan Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers, found 29,549 video clips such as television shows, music videos and movies posted on YouTube’s site without permission, an official from the group, Fumiyuki Asakura, said Friday. [more…]

Local companies and businesses are looking to the Internet more and more for ways to increase business. The first logical choice is advertising with local publishers such as your local newspaper. Another common way to promote your website is just getting your URL out to your local community with promotional products such as pens and t-shirts. These are all great ways to increase traffic to your website and ultimately increase your revenue. Some local companies and businesses are discovering the benefit of utilizing Google AdWords to target search engine users that are searching for local products and/or services. I know if I was searching for parking at or near JFK Airport, I would search “JFK Parking” on Google. You can pay for any Keyword you think a user might search for on Google to find your products and/or services. This form of local marketing converts extremely well and should be a part of any online marketing strategy. Although, I still haven’t told you what the most overlooked local marketing opportunity is. The Office Wars have begun

Google has released it’s online based office programs as a beta and is featuring a link on the home page of google.com.

“The combination of Writely and Google Spreadsheets seeks to solve the problem of how people manage and collaborate information stuck in different word processors and spreadsheets by giving individuals or groups Web access to the same data.

Google Docs & Spreadsheets, as the hybrid service is now known, marks the latest step by the Web search leader to apply consumer Internet logic to standalone computer programs, a market dominated by rival Microsoft Corp. “

Google docs can also be saved on your computer, edited and read in MS word or created in MS-word and uploaded to Google docs for continued editing.
