Wal-Mart Threatens Movie Studios Over DVD Downloads

Worried about its massive DVD sales, retail behemoth Wal-Mart has told some of Hollywood’s biggest players it will retaliate against them for selling movies on Apple’s iTunes. Last year when Disney announced it would begin offering episodes of the hit shows “Lost” and “Desperate Housewives” on Apple’s iTunes, the reaction of the world’s largest retailer sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry.

Wal-Mart, worried that offering the shows for viewing on iPods would cut into DVD sales at its stores, sent “cases and cases” of DVDs back to Disney, according to a source familiar with the matter. [more…]

Price drops in Japan to counter new Xbox 360 with HD-DVD drive

Sony Corp. said Friday it will slash the price of its much-anticipated PlayStation 3 video game console in Japan by 20 percent, heating up the competition in the next-generation gaming war against rivals Microsoft and Nintendo.

The announcement comes just days after Microsoft Corp. announced that it would roll out an external high definition DVD player for its Xbox 360 in an effort to match the PlayStation 3, due to be released in November with its own Blu-ray DVD technology. Today I attended “Optimizing Your Websites for Google search, led by Adam Lasnik, Google, Inc. It was Adam’s first speech. And as he noted the first time Google has sent someone out to talk specifically about optimizing ones site. The session was geared towards government agencies so there wasn’t very many SEO’s in attendance and I think Google was more willing to give out a few tidbits on how to optimize your site. Adam noted that making your content available is good for the government and good for taxpayers. [more…]

Google Web Hosting?

Is Google’s next big move to offer web hosting services? Google’s recent purchase of “Googlehostedservices.com” and the fact that Google’s Page Creator already offers an informal web hosting solution has analysts speculating.

Page Creator is a free site tool offered by Google with a lot of great features however, you don’t get your own domain and you’re very limited on the look and feel of the website design. [more…]
