Google Adds Real-Time Traffic

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

Nothing is more frustrating than to find yourself wedged in standstill traffic, anticipating a multi-car pileup, only to find that commuters have found a stranded motorist to be more interesting than their own lives. Wouldn’t it be nice to know ahead of time where traffic is pilling-up and where the best alternate route might be? Google may have the answer.

Google scores partial victory in page-ranking suit

Kinderstart.com is suing Google to get their PageRank back. Not exactly what we would recommend but I can understand their frustration. We have taken on clients in the past that have been blacklisted and or penalized and have had a great success in working with the client to get the site relisted. The process can be long and stressful and Google desperately needs a better system. Matt Cutts said on his Blog that Google now will reach out to certain sites that are penalized if they are using Google’s Sitemaps feature, (http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/notifying-webmasters-of-penalties/). But how many webmasters actually know this.. Probably less then 1 percent.

Web 2.0 redefined with one word - responsibility

Friday, July 14th, 2006

Article Source: MarylandMedia.com

The term “Web 2.0” has been overused and has unfortunately oversaturated conversations to the point of being synonymous with industry ignorance. Like many leaders and followers of innovation – we role our eyes at the mere mention of the idea of the existence of such a term. Whether you like the term or not is a matter of semantics – the reality is that we’ve truly embarked upon a time of standards and sophistication that demand an evolutionary identifying mark. We have entered a moment that now more than ever before demands responsible design/development.

This is primarily because larger, dynamic sites are more likely to contain fresh information of value to the Search Engine’s audience. USWeb has worked with some of the world’s largest online media companies such as Forbes.com and CNET Networks who are widely considered leading sources of information within their respective subject matters. Both entities have achieved “authority” status with the search engines and thus are typically “crawled” deeper and more often than smaller sites with similar information. [more…]
